Volterra
Volterra is a town in Italy. It is important to Italian history because of its location. It is situated on hill which was great for protection from the enemies. The Etruscans occupated this town before the Romans took it over. The whole town is surrounded with walls, it has a castle and a prison which is still occupied by criminals. There is also ruins of a roman ampitheatre. The town has an Etruscan museum along with a torture museum very interesting mix. The day we went there was a market with meat, cheese, wine (vino), olive oil (of course), and pastry. The meat was a little distrubing, I am not used to seeing whole pigs just chillin on the table but you know it was interesting, the pasteries were beautiful a long with tastey...they gave us some samples. Volterra is known for its alabaster, there is a museum there as well for alabaster but throughout the town there are many shops full of the soft alabaster glow so that was enough for me. Also in this walled city there are the winding Italian streets which I LOVE.
